John Denver was a superstar performer who influenced millions of people by his popular-folk hits, many of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in the love of Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver was by far one of the most well-known artists who represented Colorado. In 2011 Denver was chosen as the Hall of Fame's first inductee. For many, Denver is the Colorado image. On my trips I've had the pleasure of meeting people who are from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell them you're from Colorado the first words they'll use are Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's top 10 hit after he performed with smaller folk groups. It was co-written by and performed by Bill Danoff. Danoff originally wrote it to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard earlier versions that it would be a big hit. After performing to an excited audience at Washington D.C., the performer recorded the track.
